Is it better to rent or buy a skid steer for small construction jobs?

Hey everyone!

I’ve got a few small construction projects coming up, and I’m debating whether it makes more sense to rent or buy a skid steer. I won’t be using it every day, but I also don’t want to keep paying rental fees if I need it often enough.

For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation, what did you decide? Is buying worth it in the long run, or is renting the smarter move for occasional use? Any advice on costs, maintenance, or resale value would be great!

Hey,
Good question! If you’re only using it occasionally, renting might save you the headache of maintenance and storage. But if you think you’ll need it often enough, buying could be a better investment, especially if you get a good deal on a used one and can resell it later. Have you looked at how often you’d actually be using it over the next year? That might help make the decision easier!

I was in the same boat last year and ended up renting at first, but once I realized how often I needed it, buying made way more sense. Maintenance isn’t too bad if you stay on top of it, and the resale value holds up pretty well if you treat it right.
