What Do Excavators Charge?

Hey everyone,
I’m trying to get a better idea of what excavators typically charge for different types of jobs. I know pricing can vary based on location, job complexity, and whether it’s an hourly or project-based rate.

A few things I’m curious about:
  • Hourly vs. Project Rates – What’s more common, and what’s the typical price range?
  • Equipment Size – Do mini excavators vs. full-size excavators have drastically different rates?
  • Additional Costs – Are there common add-ons like mobilization fees, fuel surcharges, or operator costs?
  • Regional Differences – Does pricing fluctuate a lot depending on the state or area?

If you’ve hired or worked as an excavator operator, what’s been your experience with pricing? Would love to hear what’s fair in today’s market!

Thanks in advance!

Rates can be all over the place depending on the job and location! Around here, mini excavators tend to go for $75–$150/hr, while full-size machines can be $200/hr or more. A lot of companies have daily minimums, and yeah, mobilization fees and fuel surcharges can sneak up on you. Are you looking for a one-off job or something longer-term?

Rates definitely depend on where you are and the type of work needed. I’ve seen some operators charge by the hour, while others prefer project-based pricing. And yeah, things like transport fees and fuel costs can add up quick! Are you looking for residential work or something on a larger scale?
