Hey folks,

I’m looking to buy some construction equipment soon and was wondering what the best time of year to get the best deals is? Are there certain seasons when prices tend to drop or when dealerships are more willing to negotiate? I’ve heard end-of-year sales or slower months might offer better prices, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually timed their purchases well. Does auction season matter, or is it all about supply and demand? Appreciate any insights or personal experiences!

Great question! For me late fall and year-end (around November–December) is often prime time since dealers are trying to hit sales targets and clear inventory for tax reasons. Winter months can also be slower for sales, so you might have more room to negotiate. If you’re looking at auctions, early spring and late fall are usually hot seasons too, especially for used gear. Just keep an eye on market demand. If big projects are ramping up, prices might spike regardless of the season. Timing it right can definitely save you thousands!

Honestly, pretty dumb question in my opinion. You said you're looking to buy soon so seems the time of year is irrelevant. The time to buy is when you need it. If you're waiting "on a deal" you're likely losing money by not tackling a job or you're losing out on bids because you don't have the right equipment. Takes money to make money.

While late fall/early winter and the end of quarters can offer potential savings, it's always a good idea to keep your eyes open and be ready to negotiate whenever you find the right machine. Don't be afraid to make an offer, even if it's not "the perfect time" according to some calendar. Might be a small dealer who got overstocked with trade ins. Or a guy who is retired and his kids want to liquidate. Deals are found by those who are looking - If you ain't lookin' for water in the desert, you're gonna stay thirsty.
