Hi,

I’m looking to upgrade the tracks on my skid steer and want to make sure I choose the best option for my needs. With so many different track types, tread patterns, and materials available, I’m wondering:
  • What’s the best type of track for different terrains (mud, gravel, pavement, snow, etc.)?
  • Are rubber tracks or steel tracks better for overall durability and performance?
  • How do different tread patterns affect traction and wear?
  • What brands or models have you had the best experience with?
  • Any tips for maintaining skid steer tracks to make them last longer?
Would love to hear from operators and mechanics who have real-world experience with different track setups. Let’s hear your thoughts!

I’ve run both rubber and steel tracks, and it really depends on what you're working on. Rubber is great for versatility—better on pavement and won’t tear up the ground as much, but steel tracks are unbeatable for heavy-duty work in rocky or muddy terrain. If you’re dealing with a lot of mud, a wider, more aggressive tread helps with flotation. As for brands, I’ve had good luck with Camso for durability. Keeping them clean and properly tensioned definitely helps them last longer!
