What Sizes Do Dump Trucks Come In?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking into dump trucks and was wondering about what are the different sizes they come in? I know they range from small utility dump trucks to massive mining haulers, but what are the common classifications?

Some questions I have:
  • What are the typical load capacities for standard, mid-size, and heavy-duty dump trucks?
  • How do you determine the right size dump truck for a specific job?
  • Are there industry standards for dump truck sizes, or does it vary by manufacturer?
  • What’s the biggest dump truck currently in operation?
Would love to hear insights from anyone with experience in construction, hauling, or mining! Thanks in advance.

Hey DirtMover,

Great questions!

Dump trucks definitely come in a wide range of sizes depending on the job. For standard dump trucks, you're looking at around 10-15 tons of capacity, mid-size can handle 20-30 tons, and heavy-duty trucks like those for mining can go well over 100 tons! As for choosing the right size, it really depends on the job site and material being hauled. Some manufacturers have their own variations, but there are general industry standards to help guide your decision. The biggest dump trucks are massive mining models, like the BelAZ 75710, which can carry a whopping 450 tons!
