Inspection Summary

What's great

  • This machine currently has 2,300 hours of operation on one light rail tunnel project. All of the applicable Performance Improvement Programs (PIP) have been installed by a local Liebherr dealer
  • The automatic fire suppression system is installed internally to protect the system from damage by debris and rock
  • In addition to the up/down and in/out boom motions demonstrated in the video, the tunnel boom also has radial motion capabilities designed to reach the arched area of a tunnel
  • All operator meters and displays in good working order, including rear view camera
  • Hydraulics are in above average condition, no unusual sounds heard during operation
  • Easy engine start up, smooth idle; no blow by seen at operating temps
  • Smooth and quiet rotation of swing table in both directions
  • Good function of bear and boom, full 360 orbit and tunneling rotation
  • Good undercarriage appearance, no panel damage or wetness observed

What needs work

  • The inspection reports a surge/rubbing noise heard during forward and reverse travel - this comment refers to the Liebherr travel alarm, installed on all underground equipment
  • Some rust and wear seen on upper edge and upper surface of the blade
  • Top left corner of the counterweight is dented
  • Some surface rust and scrapes on body panels and boom, rust pre-cancer seen behind the blade
