Preguntas frecuentes

  • The cost of a used cold planer depends on the size, usage, and whether you're buying just the attachment or the skid steer/loader + cold planer. After about 5,000 hours, a cold planer is typically worth 20-30% of the price of a new machine. The price ranges from $10,000 - $500,000.

  • Popular cold planer manufacturers include Caterpillar, GOMACO, Astec, and Mazio Attachments.

  • Cold planers are used for pavement recycling. Cold planers can recycle pavement on almost any sized surface from parking lots, highways, and airport runways.

  • Cold planer machines (asphalt mills) can weigh up to 75,000 lbs. The standalone attachment weighs up to 2,500 lbs.

  • Cold planers are known to be "self-destructing” machines because of their frequent contact with hard surfaces. Meaning before you get into operating a cold planer, you need to stay on top of maintenance.

  • When buying a used cold planer, a few factors you'll want to consider are the hours on the machine, its service record, and damage to specific areas like the rotor and cutting tips.

  • Newer cold planers have many features that can save you time and money. More recent models may have more horsepower, wider conveyor belts, and automatic conveyor speed boats, allowing the recycled pavement to move away from the cutter head faster. Newer models also enable the cutting assembly's width, type, and depth to be changed quickly, saving time and money.

  • Cold planer and asphalt milling machine operators make anywhere from $29,001 to $52,596.

  • Cold planer operators must operate the machines and perform preventative maintenance daily. Operators should have good hand-eye coordination and the ability to lift weights up to 50 lbs. View the full guide here: https://www.boomandbucket.com/blog/how-to-become-a-heavy-equipment-operator
